Cooper Lighting Area Light NH1204M
175w MV (11-07)

Fixture's Information.

I got this from Wal-Mart in mid-2008. After that there wasn't anymore mercury vapor fixtures sold at the stores so this one was the last one on the shelves. It's chinese but reasonably well built.

Fixture's Size.

Yes that's me holding it. I am holding it to give you an idea how big that fixture is. For those who like numbers, its 16in tall, 10in wide, and 13in deep. I thought those yardlights were smaller untill I got my hand on one. It weight about 6.6 pounds. Look heavier because of the open airy space inside the ballast area. Its for air to flow freely inside the fixture and keep it cool.

ID Tag.

Here is the tag telling who made the fixture and what lamp is used. It also tell when it was assembled. (Parts were made one month before.) It's one of the last mercury vapor fixture been made/imported into the US before the January 1, 2008 ban. The fins over the tag is for the ballast to stay cool. Similar to the ones seen on the lawnmower motor.

Lamp Included.

The lamp included is the same as the Regent I have bought four years ago. The reflector and reflactor is one piece. The part can be removed by loosening two screws inside where the lamp is located in order to access the ballast and wiring. The refractor is the clear part and it's made of plastic. Dunno what plastic it is. The Reflector is made of really thin sheet metal stamped into the shape it's now. Never seen such a thin sheet metal before. Lamp is here.

Slip-fitter & Cord.

Here is the slip-fitter for installation on arms. Not recommended since it will look ugly with the built-in wall-bracket. It look better on walls. The cord is different from the first picture since I replaced it due it didn't have grounding as it was the only cord I had available at the time.

Lamp Holder.

With the reflector/refractor and lamp removed. You can see the ballast and wiring. You have to supply your own wirenuts as it doesn't have in the box. The lampholder is designed for Mogul Base (E-39) lamps up to 1500w, while the Medium Base (E-26) is rated for 660w max. The lampholder is pulse rated up to 5kVolts.

Ballast Area.

Here you see the ballast inside the fixture. In order to see the space where the ballast resides, I removed the lampholder by unclipping the connectors and loosening two bolts similar to the ones holding the bracket over the ballast. The yellow and black part on the carpet is one of my Klein Tools. (Forgot what tip it had.)

Ballast & Bracket.

Here is the ballast and bracket that held it in place. Small ain't it? It's designed to regulate the current and voltage being supplied to the lamp. This is what that has been banned from being made or imported into the US. The ones already made and in the US can still be sold, and you can still install them. Some state are against installing them on properties but who's gonna bother enforcing that law?

Photo Cell.

The photo cell that came with the fixture. Its job is to sense when it's nightime and turn-on the fixture and turn it off when it's morning. No need to remember to turn it on or off. Its automatic. The PC is a LongJoin JL-202A (10-07) from China.

Photocell Receptacle.

Here is where the photo cell above goes into. Just line up the wide blade under the PC (Photo Cell) with the larger hole on the receptacle. Push it in and twist clockwise to install it. Simple as that. Here is the cooling fins for the ballast.

Lamp Included Lit.

Here is the lamp included burning in the fixture. You can find more information about the lamp here. It's pretty much the same lamp but the one included was made in October 2007 while the one on the website was made in September 2004. (I got two of the same lamp. Better have plenty of them in stock just in case they decide to ban sales and importing them into the US. Same goes for the ballasts.)
